Afghan FineHand KnottedRug

Black / Dark red99 x 147 cm

Woven in the rich craft traditions of Afghanistan, rugs from this region reflect generations of hand-knotting knowledge passed down through local artisan families. Afghan weavers are renowned for their ability to balance robust utility with deeply expressive traditional designs, making each piece a practical work of cultural art.

The construction relies on traditional hand-knotting techniques where individual strands of wool are wrapped around the warp threads and secured by hand. This deliberate method produces a tightly packed pile that distributes wear evenly, ensuring the rug maintains its appearance and comfort over many years of use.

Signature design elements often include geometric motifs, recurring medallions, and deep, saturated colour palettes rooted in natural dyes. The carefully balanced borders frame the central field, creating a harmonious visual rhythm that has characterized regional weaving traditions for centuries.

Owning a hand-knotted Afghan rug means preserving a living tradition of craftsmanship in your home. It connects your living space to the skill, patience, and cultural heritage of the artisans who spent months bringing the design to life.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who tie each knot individually by hand. Achieving a density of 90,000 knots per m2 across its 147 x 99 cm dimensions requires months of careful, concentrated labor.

Weighing 4.5 kg, the solid construction reflects the generous amount of natural wool and time invested in its creation. This careful hand knotting ensures a tight, durable pile and clear pattern definition that stands up to everyday family life.
