Design

The central field features repeating geometric medallions in dark blue, framed by a detailed decorative border that adds depth and structure to the rich red background.

Afghan Khal Mohammadi rugs are highly regarded, taking their name from the master dyer and weaver who developed the signature warm red tones and robust structures in northern Afghanistan. This tradition has become famous for its deep, lustrous finishes and exceptional durability.

The weaving process relies on hand-spun wool, which absorbs the rich dyes unevenly to create beautiful, subtle variations in tone. This characteristic gives the rug a visual depth and warmth that develops further character over time.

The design is defined by repeating geometric medallions, often referred to as guls, set against a rich red field and enclosed by intricate decorative borders. These patterns have been passed down through generations of weavers, representing a shared cultural language.

Owning a Khal Mohammadi rug means bringing a piece of living history into your home. Valued by collectors and homeowners alike, these rugs are appreciated for their structural integrity, warmth, and timeless artistic expression.

This rug is hand-knotted by skilled weavers in Afghanistan, a process that demands great patience and precision. Every single knot is tied individually by hand, creating a durable structure that machine-made alternatives cannot replicate.

With a weight of 4.3 kg for its 143 x 97 cm size, the rug has a dense and substantial feel. This weight indicates a tightly packed construction, which helps the intricate geometric patterns remain sharp and clear while ensuring the rug lies flat and secure on your floor.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.

Cotton

Cotton is a natural material that makes them a suitable option for people with allergies. The material is soft, durable and resilient, which makes them practical and comfortable for high-traffic areas such as the hallway, kitchen, and bathroom.
