BattutaHand KnottedRug

Dark yellow / Brown176 x 241 cm

The Battuta rug belongs to the storied tradition of Afghan weaving, a craft deeply rooted in the rugged landscapes and nomadic history of Central Asia. These rugs are born from a culture that has mastered the art of working with natural, resilient materials to create items that are both functional and deeply expressive of their environment.

The term Gabbeh within this category refers to a style traditionally characterised by a thicker, more plush pile and a more simplistic, often artistic approach to design. By blending these traditional attributes with modern, minimalist aesthetics, these rugs offer a contemporary take on classic techniques that remains faithful to the artisan's touch.

Visually, these pieces are defined by their use of open space and understated, organic motifs. Unlike more formal or intricate floral designs, this style favours the natural beauty of the Wool and the depth achieved through subtle colour variations. The borders are often minimal, allowing the primary field to dictate the visual character of the rug.

Owning a piece from this tradition is an act of supporting a heritage of skill and patience. These rugs are highly valued by collectors and homeowners alike for their authenticity and the way they bring a sense of human history into a modern living space. They are not merely floor coverings, but tangible connections to a rich, enduring craft.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused effort to its creation. The process involves securing thousands of individual knots to a cotton foundation, a labour-intensive method that ensures both the structural integrity and the longevity of the finished piece.

With a density of 90,000 knots per m2, the rug achieves a refined balance between a soft, luxurious pile and a sturdy, resilient construction. This specific density allows for the subtle shifts in tone and texture seen across the surface, providing a level of precision that only human hands can achieve.

The substantial weight of 14.4 kg is a direct result of the high-quality Wool and the dense, careful knotting technique employed throughout production. This weight signifies a high concentration of materials and a commitment to durability that ensures the rug will remain a reliable, high-performing feature in your home.
