The rich heritage of Afghan rug-making is deeply rooted in the traditions of nomadic and village tribal communities across the Middle East. For generations, weavers have passed down intricate techniques and symbolic motifs from parent to child, preserving ancient artistic expressions through functional home textiles.

Hand knotting is a revered craft where individual strands of natural wool are tied to the foundation warps by hand. This painstaking process requires remarkable skill, where a single artisan must follow memorised patterns with absolute precision to create a stable and enduring textile.

The visual language of this tradition often features striking geometric arrangements, repeating motifs, and earthy palettes accented with vibrant secondary tones. The design on this piece showcases a playful yet balanced layout of nested squares and diamond formations, bordered by traditional motifs that reflect the weavers cultural surroundings.

Collecting a piece from this tradition connects your home to a deep lineage of skilled textile artistry. Owning such a rug is an appreciation of human time, cultural heritage, and the enduring beauty of authentic hand-crafted home furnishings.

This rug is entirely hand knotted by skilled artisans who carefully tie each individual knot by hand, dedicating months of precise labour to bring the design to life. This traditional handmade technique requires extraordinary patience and steady hands, resulting in a level of quality and durability that machines simply cannot replicate.

With a knot density of 40,000 knots per m2, approximately 4,456 individual knots are meticulously placed across the 134 x 83 cm surface. This careful density ensures that the intricate geometric pattern remains exceptionally sharp and well-defined while giving the pile a resilient, long-lasting structure.

Weighing 4.4 kg, the substantial construction reflects the generous amount of natural material and human effort invested in its creation. This careful weight and dense weave guarantee a sturdy foundation that stays securely in place while maintaining its beauty through daily use.
