Berber Colourful - A Welcoming Path of Colour

Handcrafted in Afghanistan, this one-of-a-kind Berber Colourful runner brings a vibrant geometric energy to your home, woven entirely from soft wool.

This hand-knotted runner offers a wonderfully cosy and tactile experience underfoot. With a thickness of 10 mm, the plush wool pile provides a cushioned feel that brings warmth and comfort to the busier walkways of your home.

Crafted from high-quality wool, the runner naturally repels dirt and resists wear, making it an excellent choice for daily life. The natural fibres offer a soft texture while helping to absorb sound in long corridors.

As a one-of-a-kind creation, this runner carries its own individual story. No two pieces are ever identical, ensuring that the rug you place in your home is a personal work of art that cannot be found anywhere else.

The generous dimensions of 561 x 95 cm make it ideal for framing long hallways or entryways. Its balanced geometric design and soft tones create an inviting path that guides guests into your living space.

While Berber designs traditionally originate from the nomadic tribes of North Africa, their iconic geometric styles have inspired weavers across other historic rug-making regions, including Afghanistan. This contemporary piece represents a beautiful cross-cultural dialogue, blending traditional tribal layouts with modern colour sensibilities.

The term Berber in contemporary weaving refers to the characteristic thick, plush pile and the expressive, often asymmetrical geometric patterns. By adapting these classic tribal motifs into a vibrant runner format, the weavers have created a functional piece of art that bridges historical design and modern living.

The design features a dynamic sequence of diagonal geometric shapes in a soft, multicoloured palette. The shifting tones of blue, yellow, pink, and cream are framed by dark accents, creating a sense of movement and depth along the entire length of the runner.

Hand-knotted rugs from Afghanistan are highly valued for their structural integrity and expressive designs. Acquiring a unique contemporary runner like this means preserving a living craft tradition while bringing a piece of genuine textile art with its own distinct character into your living space.

This runner is crafted using traditional hand-knotting techniques, where skilled weavers in Afghanistan tie each knot individually to create a robust and beautiful structure.

Weighing 21.3 kg, the substantial weight of this runner reflects the dense concentration of pure wool used in its construction. This density ensures that the pile remains resilient and holds its shape even under frequent use.

The creation of a hand-knotted piece of this scale represents weeks of focused physical effort and artistic dedication. This human investment is what gives the runner its lasting durability and character, making it a valuable addition to your home.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
