Bokhara rugs take their name from the ancient Silk Road city of Bukhara in Central Asia, a historic hub for trade and craftsmanship. While the designs have roots in these ancient nomadic traditions, the finest examples today are woven in Pakistan, where the craft has been refined into a distinct, highly regarded regional style.

The '2ply' designation is a vital technical detail that directly impacts the rug's performance. It means that the Wool used in the pile is constructed from two strands twisted together, which creates a stronger, more lustrous, and longer-lasting surface compared to single-ply alternatives. This technique is essential for achieving the iconic, velvety sheen that makes these rugs so sought after.

Visually, these rugs are defined by their repeating gul motifs, which are stylized, octagonal medallions arranged in structured, elegant rows. These are typically enclosed by multiple formal borders that frame the field, providing a sense of order and balance that has made this pattern a staple of classic interior design for generations.

Owning a hand-knotted rug from this tradition is about more than decor, as it represents a connection to a long-standing cultural heritage. Collectors value these pieces for the immense human skill involved in their creation and the way they bring a sense of gravity and history into a modern home.

This rug is hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate significant time to each individual knot. With a density of 250,000 knots per m2, the creation of a rug of this size requires months of focused, precise work. This high knot count is the hallmark of a premium piece, ensuring the design remains sharp and the pile exceptionally durable.

The quality of the construction is further evidenced by the rug's substantial weight of 5 kg for its size, indicating a dense use of materials and a robust foundation. Every knot is placed by hand, reflecting a level of craft that no machine can replicate, resulting in a product built to endure for generations.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.

Cotton is a natural material that makes them a suitable option for people with allergies. The material is soft, durable and resilient, which makes them practical and comfortable for high-traffic areas such as the hallway, kitchen, and bathroom.
