Bokhara 2plyHand KnottedRug

Dark grey / Black94 x 166 cm

Bokhara rugs trace their design lineage back to the ancient Silk Road city of Bukhara in Central Asia, where nomadic and village weavers developed distinctive geometric repeating motifs. Over generations, this rich tradition migrated southward into Pakistan, where local artisans refined the craft to an exceptional standard while preserving the classic aesthetic.

This rug features a 2ply construction, meaning the pile is spun using two strands of wool twisted together. This traditional method yields a denser, more lustrous, and harder-wearing pile than a single-ply approach, ensuring the rug handles daily living with ease.

The visual language of this tradition is defined by the repeating gul motif, an octagonal medallion arrangement enclosed by formal guard borders. While traditional Bokhara rugs are frequently seen in deep reds, this distinctive blue variation offers a calm, refreshing interpretation of a classic design.

Owning a hand-knotted rug from this esteemed heritage means bringing centuries of skill and cultural storytelling into your home. It represents an authentic connection to traditional craftsmanship and a lasting investment in quality.

Every square metre of this rug reflects months of careful hand-knotted craftsmanship by skilled artisans in Pakistan. The intricate process requires precise placement for each of the 250,000 knots per m2, totaling approximately 389,860 individual knots across the entire 166 x 94 cm surface.

Weighing 3.9 kg, the substantial construction demonstrates the density of materials and the immense human effort invested in its creation. This careful hand-knotting technique ensures exceptional pattern sharpness and long-term durability that machine-made alternatives simply cannot replicate.
