HamadanHand KnottedRug

Dark red / Brown100 x 155 cm

Hamadan rugs originate from one of the oldest cities in the Middle East, a hub of trade and craftsmanship nestled in the mountainous regions of the west. For centuries, the villages surrounding this city have maintained a diverse and vibrant weaving culture, producing rugs that are as varied as they are durable.

The term Hamadan refers to a wide range of rugs from this region rather than a single specific style. These rugs often use a sturdy foundation and high-quality wool, which is why they have earned a reputation for being some of the most reliable and long-lasting floor coverings available to collectors today.

Visually, these rugs are often defined by their bold medallion designs and repeating floral motifs, typically framed by a formal decorative border. The use of deep red and blue tones is a hallmark of the tradition, reflecting the natural dyes and aesthetic preferences that have been passed down through generations of local weavers.

Owning a Hamadan rug is an investment in cultural heritage. Because each piece is crafted with individual expression, collectors value them for their authenticity and the way they bridge the gap between ancient tradition and modern home comfort.

This piece is created through a rigorous hand-knotted process that requires immense skill and patience. With a density of 160,000 knots per m2, the creation of this rug represents a significant investment of time and human effort, ensuring that every knot contributes to the overall stability and longevity of the final product.

The 5.4 kg weight of this 155 x 100 cm rug is a testament to the generous amount of wool used in its construction. This density is the mark of a well-made, durable rug, as the sheer amount of material packed into the foundation is what gives it its characteristic weight and resistance to wear.

By choosing this hand-knotted rug, you are supporting a craft tradition where precision is paramount. The high knot count not only results in a sharper, more defined pattern but also creates a dense pile that is far more resilient than machine-made alternatives.
