Hamadan rugs originate from one of the oldest cities in the Middle East, a historic hub located in a region renowned for its prolific weaving traditions. For centuries, the surrounding villages have produced rugs that reflect the unique identity of the local weavers, often utilising local wool and traditional vegetable dyes to create their signature look.

The terminology surrounding these rugs often refers to the specific village or tribal group where they were created, as the region of Hamadan encompasses hundreds of weaving centres. This diversity means that while they share a common lineage, each rug possesses its own distinct personality and artistic flair, making them a favourite among those who appreciate regional authenticity.

Signature design elements in this tradition often include a central medallion surrounded by repeating floral patterns or geometric motifs. The borders are typically framed with complex, stylized vines and blossoms, creating a balanced and formal composition that is instantly recognisable to collectors and enthusiasts alike.

Owning a piece from this tradition is an invitation to connect with a long heritage of Middle Eastern craftsmanship. These rugs are highly valued for their durability and the way they age, often becoming more beautiful and characterful with time. They represent a commitment to preserving traditional skills and bringing a piece of cultural history into the modern home.

This runner is meticulously hand-knotted, a traditional craft that requires immense patience and skill. Each individual knot is tied by hand onto a cotton foundation, a process that ensures the finished rug is exceptionally durable and capable of lasting for generations.

With a total weight of 14 kg, this runner is substantial and dense, reflecting the generous amount of wool used in its creation. This density is a direct result of the hours of dedicated labour invested by the artisan, ensuring that the rug stays firmly in place and retains its shape over years of use.

The precision of the hand-knotting process is evident in the sharpness of the motifs and the overall integrity of the piece. By choosing a hand-knotted rug, you are supporting a time-honoured craft tradition where every detail is deliberate and every knot contributes to the long-term beauty and resilience of the floor covering.
