Hamadan rugs originate from one of the oldest cities in the Middle East, a region with a deep-seated tradition of textile production that dates back centuries. Located in the western part of the region, the city of Hamadan serves as a hub for hundreds of surrounding villages, each contributing its own unique variations to the classic Hamadan style.

The term Hamadan refers to a wide variety of rugs produced in this area, which are renowned for their durability and use of high-quality Wool. These rugs are typically characterised by their sturdy construction, which makes them highly practical for everyday use while maintaining the aesthetic integrity of traditional weaving techniques.

Design-wise, these rugs often feature geometric medallions or repeating floral motifs, sometimes arranged in a diamond lattice pattern. The borders are frequently decorated with intricate floral or geometric bands, reflecting the diverse cultural influences of the region. The use of deep, rich tones is a hallmark of this tradition, creating a sophisticated look that complements many interior styles.

Collectors value Hamadan rugs for their authenticity and the skill involved in their creation. Owning one is a way to connect with a long-standing heritage of craftsmanship, as each rug carries the signature design language of the village where it was woven. It is a piece of cultural history that adds depth and character to any home.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused effort to its creation. The process involves tying each individual knot by hand, a labour-intensive method that ensures the pile is exceptionally dense and durable, capable of maintaining its structure and beauty for decades.

With a total weight of 11.8 kg, this runner demonstrates a high density of material that speaks to the quality of its construction. This significant weight is a direct result of the dense knotting and the quality of the Wool used, providing a heavy, stable foundation that lies flat and feels substantial underfoot.

The precision required to execute the complex design on a hand-knotted loom is immense. This level of craftsmanship is what allows for the detailed patterns and the resilient pile, ensuring that the final piece is not just a floor covering, but a durable investment that honours age-old traditions of textile art.
