Dark red / Black196 x 324 cm

Hamadan rugs originate from one of the oldest cities in the Middle East, a historic hub located in the western part of the region. This area has been a centre for weaving for centuries, with local artisans developing a distinct visual language that has evolved over generations, blending rural tribal influences with more formal urban design sensibilities.

The term Hamadan refers to a wide variety of rugs produced in the city and its surrounding villages. These rugs are traditionally known for their robust construction, which often features a sturdy foundation. This structural durability is a hallmark of the region, designed to create floor coverings that can withstand the rigours of daily life while retaining their aesthetic beauty.

The design of this rug features a classic medallion at its centre, surrounded by a field filled with stylised floral and geometric motifs. These patterns are characteristic of the Hamadan style, often incorporating a rich palette of deep reds and blues. The presence of such intricate borders and balanced symmetry reflects the traditional artistry that has defined this region's output for generations.

Collecting a rug from this tradition is an investment in cultural heritage. These pieces are valued not only for their beauty but for the skill they represent, serving as a bridge between ancient weaving techniques and contemporary home design. Owning such a rug connects your living space to a long-standing lineage of craft and artistry.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and precision. By individually tying each knot by hand, the artisan creates a durable and dense foundation that machine-made alternatives simply cannot match, ensuring that the rug maintains its shape and texture for many years.

With a knot density of 90,000 knots per m2, the construction of this piece is a testament to the high level of skill involved. Across its 6.35 m2 surface, this represents over 570,000 hand-tied knots, a labour-intensive endeavour that takes a skilled artisan months of dedicated work to complete.

The significant weight of 22.2 kg is a direct result of the high-quality wool and the density of the knotting. This weight is a clear indicator of the generous amount of material used and the robustness of the foundation, offering a tangible sense of quality that you can feel every time you walk across it.
