Kerman rugs originate from the desert city of Kerman in the southeastern part of the Middle East. This region has been a legendary centre for rug production for centuries, with historical records dating back to the Safavid dynasty. The weavers of this city are renowned for their ability to blend technical mastery with a sophisticated artistic vision.

The term Kerman refers to a specific tradition of weaving that prioritises artistic expression. These rugs are often characterised by their use of a wide range of colours and complex, curvilinear designs that require a high level of skill to execute. The tradition is famous for its floral patterns, which often incorporate intricate vases, cypress trees, and elaborate medallion compositions.

A signature element of this style is the 'Shah Abbasi' medallion and the dense, floral-filled field that surrounds it. The borders are typically as detailed as the centre, often featuring multiple guard stripes that frame the main design. This specific piece reflects these classic design hallmarks, showcasing the balanced and harmonious aesthetic that has made Kerman rugs sought after by collectors worldwide.

Owning a Kerman rug is a significant investment in cultural heritage. These pieces are valued not only for their beauty but for the centuries-old techniques that sustain their production. When you bring this rug into your home, you are continuing a legacy of artisanal excellence that has travelled through generations, preserving a vital part of Middle Eastern design history.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans, a process that requires immense patience and precision. Given the size of 395 x 280 cm and the substantial weight of 33.2 kg, this rug represents hundreds of hours of labour, with every single knot placed by hand to ensure structural integrity and a uniform, dense surface.

The substantial weight of 33.2 kg is a direct indicator of the high material density and the robust foundation used in its construction. This level of craftsmanship ensures that the rug maintains its shape and beauty over time, providing a resilient floor covering that stands up to daily life while retaining its refined aesthetic.

The precision of the hand-knotting process is reflected in the clarity of the intricate floral patterns. Because each knot is tied individually, the weavers can achieve a level of detail that is simply not possible with automated techniques, resulting in a finished product that is as sturdy as it is beautiful.
