The rug is crafted entirely from Wool, offering a soft yet resilient feel that naturally regulates warmth. Its flat-weave structure creates a clean, smooth surface that is easy to maintain, making it a practical addition to your home environment.

As a truly one-of-a-kind piece, this rug carries the unique fingerprint of its creator. Because no two Kelims are identical, owning this piece means you are bringing a singular, unrepeatable work of art into your home that will never be made again.

Hailing from the storied weaving traditions of Afghanistan, this piece brings a sense of history and global style to your decor. Its vibrant palette and traditional motifs create a focal point that feels both curated and deeply personal, offering a lasting quality that stands the test of time.

The Kelim tradition is one of the most ancient and respected forms of textile art in the Middle East and Central Asia. These rugs originate from nomadic and semi-nomadic tribes who developed flat-weaving techniques to create portable, durable, and highly decorative coverings for their homes.

Unlike pile rugs, Kelims are created by interweaving the warp and weft strands to form a smooth surface. This technical approach requires a high level of precision, as the pattern is built directly into the structure of the rug during the weaving process rather than being added afterwards. This results in a reversible and lightweight textile that remains remarkably strong.

Visually, this tradition is defined by striking geometric motifs, often featuring diamonds, triangles, and intricate borders. The designs are typically passed down through generations, with each region or tribe favouring specific colour palettes and symbolic shapes that tell stories of their heritage and environment.

Owning an authentic Afghan Kelim is a way to connect with a rich cultural lineage. These rugs are highly valued by collectors for their authenticity and the skill required to produce them. By bringing one into your home, you are not just acquiring a floor covering but a piece of history that embodies the patience and artistry of its makers.

This Kelim is hand-woven by skilled artisans, a process that relies on generations of technical knowledge rather than modern machinery. The flat-weave technique is an intensive practice that requires precise tension and rhythmic movement to create the intricate geometric patterns seen across the surface.

With a weight of 1.6 kg for its size, this rug demonstrates a dense, sturdy construction that signals the significant amount of hand-labour required to finish it. The weight reflects the high density of the Wool used, ensuring a solid, long-lasting product that remains stable on your floor.

The creation of this specific piece represents countless hours of focus and dedication. By choosing this hand-woven item, you are supporting a traditional craft where every thread is placed with intent, resulting in a durable and authentic piece that carries the mark of its maker’s expertise.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
