Originating from Afghanistan, this runner represents a rich tradition of craftsmanship. Its presence in your home is more than just a decor choice, as it brings a genuine, grounded energy that only a handmade, authentic rug can provide.

Kelim rugs from Afghanistan are deeply rooted in the nomadic traditions of the Middle East. These flat-woven textiles have historically served as versatile floor coverings, blankets, and storage bags for tribal families, evolved from a necessity of life into a celebrated form of artistic expression.

The term 'Kelim' refers to the specific flat-weaving technique used, where no pile is created. Instead, the weaver interlocks the warp and weft threads to form the pattern. This produces a lightweight yet incredibly strong fabric that is reversible and highly portable, a legacy of the rug's origins in a mobile culture.

The visual language of these rugs is defined by bold geometric shapes and a rich, earthy colour palette. The diamond motifs seen here are classic symbols often used in tribal design to represent protection and strength. The repetition of these shapes creates a harmonious, rhythmic flow that is characteristic of the Afghan weaving aesthetic.

Owning an Afghan Kelim is a way to connect with a storied past. These rugs are highly valued by collectors for their authenticity and the skill involved in their creation. They stand as a testament to a culture that values beauty in everyday utility, making them a meaningful addition to any contemporary home.

This runner is meticulously hand-woven, a process that requires immense skill and patience. By interweaving the Wool threads by hand, the artisan creates a durable, flat-weave construction that is designed to withstand daily use while maintaining its shape and beauty over time.

With a total weight of 2.4 kg, this piece demonstrates a solid construction that reflects the significant human effort invested in its creation. Every section of the runner is a result of steady, rhythmic work, ensuring that the tension across the entire 290 x 83 cm surface is balanced and even.

The time and dedication required to weave a runner of this size are substantial, reflecting a commitment to quality that mass-produced items cannot match. By choosing this piece, you are supporting a long-standing craft tradition that emphasises durability, precision, and the personal touch of an experienced weaver.

They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean.
