Hand-woven in Afghanistan, this one-of-a-kind Kelim Ariana Trend rug brings a vibrant geometric charm and natural warmth to your floors.

Introduce a sense of warmth and character to your home with this flatwoven wool rug. At a low thickness of 5 mm, it offers a neat, low-profile feel underfoot that fits easily under doors while providing a comfortable, protective layer for your floors.

Crafted entirely from natural wool, the rug benefits from the inherent strength and resilience of this premium wool fiber. It naturally repels dirt, absorbs sound, and creates a cosy atmosphere in any room it graces.

As a truly one-of-a-kind creation, this piece carries its own distinct personality. No two rugs are ever identical, meaning you are bringing a completely unique work of art into your living space that cannot be found anywhere else.

Originating from Afghanistan, this contemporary piece blends traditional regional aesthetics with modern sensibilities, making it a versatile addition to your home decor.

The tradition of flatweaving in Afghanistan stretches back centuries, deeply rooted in the nomadic and village cultures of the region. These rugs were originally crafted for practical daily use, serving as warm floor coverings, blankets, and saddlebags that could withstand the rigours of travel.

The term Kelim refers to a specific flatweave technique where the pattern is created by weaving the horizontal threads tightly over and under the vertical threads, leaving no pile. This ancient method results in a lightweight yet incredibly durable textile that is highly versatile and reversible.

This particular design showcases a vibrant array of geometric patterns and zig-zag motifs, which are characteristic of the Ariana style. The balanced repetition of shapes and the rich, earthy colour palette reflect the natural landscapes and artistic heritage of the weavers.

Today, these flatweaves are highly valued by collectors and homeowners alike for their rustic charm and historical depth. Owning an Afghan Kelim is a way to connect with a living craft tradition that has been preserved and passed down through generations.

This flatwoven rug is entirely hand-woven by skilled artisans, a process that requires immense patience, precision, and physical dedication. Every single thread is interlaced by hand, creating a tight and durable structure that machine-made alternatives simply cannot match.

With a weight of 1.7 kg and dimensions of 153 x 110 cm, the rug demonstrates a dense, high-quality weave. The artisan must carefully manage the tension of the wool threads throughout the entire weaving process to ensure a balanced, flat finish that will stand the test of time.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
