Kelim Ariana Trend - Warmth for Your Living Space

This hand-woven flatweave brings a cosy and grounded feel to any room. Its low-profile structure offers a smooth, tactile surface that is highly practical for busy areas of the home, while still providing natural warmth and sound-dampening qualities underfoot.

Crafted from pure wool, the rug benefits from the natural resilience and soft texture of this premium fiber. Wool is inherently dirt-resistant and durable, making this piece both a beautiful and functional addition to your daily living space.

As a genuine one-of-a-kind piece from Afghanistan, this rug carries its own distinct personality. No two pieces are ever identical, meaning you are bringing a unique work of textile art into your home that cannot be found anywhere else.

With its contemporary age of under twenty years, this rug combines traditional weaving knowledge with a fresh design language. The warm earth tones and subtle colourful accents make it easy to place in both classic and modern settings.

The tradition of Kilim weaving in Afghanistan is deeply rooted in the nomadic and semi-nomadic lifestyles of the region. These flatwoven rugs were originally created for practical daily use, serving as floor coverings, blankets, and storage bags that could be easily packed and transported.

The term Kilim refers to a specific flatweave technique where the horizontal threads are tightly woven through the vertical ones without creating a pile. This method produces a lightweight yet incredibly strong textile with a clean, reversible design that has been perfected over generations of weavers.

This Ariana style is characterised by its bold geometric patterns, featuring stepped diamonds and intricate borders. While traditional Afghan Kilims often favor deep reds and dark tones, this contemporary variation introduces a softer palette of beige and brown, punctuated by lively accents of orange, yellow, and pink.

Owning an authentic Afghan Kilim is a way to connect with a rich cultural heritage. Each pattern and colour choice tells a story of regional identity and artistic expression, making these flatweaves highly valued by collectors and homeowners alike.

This flatwoven rug is hand-woven by skilled artisans in Afghanistan, a process that requires immense patience and precision. Unlike pile rugs, Kilims are created by weaving the horizontal threads tightly through the vertical ones, creating a smooth, durable structure entirely by hand.

Weighing 3 kg and measuring 201 x 149 cm, this piece demonstrates the tight, even tension that only an experienced weaver can achieve. The lightweight nature of the flatweave makes it highly versatile, while the dense weave ensures it lies flat and maintains its shape over years of use.

Every variation in the pattern and colour is a natural result of the hand-weaving process. This human touch gives the rug its unique character, reflecting the hours of dedicated labor and traditional skill invested in its creation.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
