Design

The design features a balanced composition of horizontal stripes in beige, blue, brown, and grey, overlaid with a prominent geometric diamond pattern. This combination of traditional motifs and contemporary colour choices creates a versatile look that suits modern homes.

Kilim weaving has a long history in Afghanistan, where nomadic and village weavers have created flatwoven textiles for centuries. These rugs were originally made for practical use in tents and homes, serving as floor coverings, blankets, and storage bags.

The term Kilim refers to a flatwoven rug made without a pile, where the weft strands are tightly woven through the warp. This technique produces a lightweight yet strong textile with a distinct, reversible pattern that highlights the weaver's skill.

This modern interpretation of the Kilim tradition incorporates classic geometric diamond and striped motifs into a contemporary colour palette. The repeating lozenge shapes represent traditional symbols of protection and fertility, adapted here for modern tastes.

Today, contemporary Afghan Kilims are highly valued by collectors and design enthusiasts alike. They represent a successful blend of ancient tribal weaving heritage and modern design sensibilities, making them lasting pieces of cultural craft.

This Kilim is hand-woven by skilled artisans in Afghanistan, using traditional flatweaving techniques that have been passed down through generations. The process requires patience and precision, resulting in a durable piece with a rich texture.

With a weight of 11.7 kg and generous dimensions of 288 x 203 cm, the rug showcases a substantial and tight weave. This density reflects the significant amount of wool used and the hours of manual labour dedicated to creating a flatweave of this scale.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.

Cotton

Cotton is a natural material that makes them a suitable option for people with allergies. The material is soft, durable and resilient, which makes them practical and comfortable for high-traffic areas such as the hallway, kitchen, and bathroom.
