KunduzHand KnottedRug

Black / Brown191 x 294 cm

Kunduz rugs originate from the northern region of Afghanistan, a historic hub for skilled weaving communities. These rugs are deeply tied to the cultural identity of the local weavers, who have preserved their distinct patterns and techniques through centuries of regional change.

The visual language of Kunduz rugs is defined by its structured geometry. Traditional examples feature repeating diamond lattice patterns and dense, multi-layered decorative borders that frame the central field, creating a sense of balance and order.

The rich dark-red and beige tones used in these pieces are characteristic of the region, achieved through carefully balanced dyeing methods. These deep, warm shades have made Kunduz rugs highly valued by collectors who appreciate their graphic strength and historical depth.

This rug is hand-knotted by skilled artisans in Afghanistan, using techniques passed down through generations. Every single knot is placed individually by hand, a process that demands patience, precision, and deep craft knowledge.

With a substantial weight of 16.8 kg for its 294 x 191 cm size, the rug demonstrates a dense and solid construction. This weight is a direct result of the generous amount of wool used and the tightness of the weave, ensuring the rug lies flat and retains its shape over years of use.
