Dark red / Black205 x 310 cm

Mashad rugs originate from the holy city of Mashhad in the northeastern part of the Middle East. This region has a long and storied history of rug production, known for creating some of the most elaborate and grand pieces in the world, often commissioned for palaces and important cultural sites.

The quality of these rugs is defined by their construction and the specific materials used. They are typically made with a fine Wool pile on a sturdy foundation, allowing for complex, flowing designs that require a high degree of technical skill to execute perfectly.

Visually, these rugs are celebrated for their intricate floral patterns, often featuring a prominent central medallion surrounded by dense, flowing vines and blossoms. The colour palette frequently relies on deep, vibrant reds and blues, which are achieved through traditional dyeing methods that have been refined over many generations.

Collecting a rug from this tradition is an investment in heritage. Each piece represents a connection to a specific cultural lineage, where the mastery of the loom is a respected craft. Owning one is a way to appreciate the dedication of the artisans who keep these historical design languages alive in the modern world.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused effort to every piece. By tying each knot individually by hand, the weavers create a dense, high-quality pile that provides exceptional durability and clarity of pattern.

The construction involves over 1 million knots in total, a testament to the immense human effort and precision required for a rug of this size and scale. This careful process ensures that the finished product is not only beautiful but structurally sound, capable of lasting for generations with proper care.

With a total weight of 26.7 kg, this rug reflects the high volume of material and the intensive labour invested in its creation. This weight is a hallmark of quality, signalling a dense foundation that anchors the rug firmly to the floor and enhances its overall longevity.
