NainHand KnottedRug

Brown / Black150 x 206 cm

Nain rugs originate from the historic city of Nain, located in the heart of the Middle East. Originally known for producing fine wool textiles and religious garments, the region transitioned its focus to rug weaving in the early 20th century. This shift allowed local artisans to apply their existing expertise in precision and detail to the creation of exceptionally high-quality floor coverings.

The craftsmanship behind a Nain rug is defined by its focus on detail. The designs often incorporate a harmonious balance of floral motifs, vines, and central medallions. Many of these pieces are recognisable by their signature colour palettes, which often utilise deep reds or blues contrasted against cream or beige backgrounds to create a sense of depth and elegance.

Technical quality is a hallmark of this tradition. The use of high-quality wool ensures that the rugs are soft to the touch yet robust enough to handle high-traffic areas. The intricate knotting techniques favoured in this region result in a fine, tight pile that allows for the complex curvilinear patterns that collectors admire.

Owning a piece from this tradition is an investment in cultural heritage and long-standing skill. These rugs are highly valued by collectors for their consistency, beauty, and the level of artistry required to produce them. By bringing one into your home, you are continuing a legacy of craftsmanship that has been refined over generations.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and precision. By individually tying every knot, the artisan ensures that the structure is exceptionally strong and that the intricate floral patterns remain sharp and well-defined over time.

With a density of 250,000 knots per m2, the creation of this rug involves a significant investment of time and human effort. This high knot count is directly responsible for the density of the pile and the level of detail seen in the medallion and borders, resulting in a finished product that is as resilient as it is beautiful.
