Black215 x 309 cm

Sarouk rugs originate from the village of Sarouk in the central region of the Middle East, a place renowned for its long-standing history of high-quality weaving. These rugs gained international prominence in the early 20th century for their exceptional durability and the sophisticated, often floral, design language that defined the aesthetic of the era.

The term 'Mir' refers to a specific design variation within this tradition, characterised by its elegant, repeated motifs that create a harmonious and balanced visual rhythm. These designs are often celebrated for their intricate borders and central fields, which require a high degree of technical mastery to execute with the necessary precision and grace.

Visually, these rugs are defined by their rich palettes and dense, repeating patterns that often draw inspiration from classical motifs. The borders are typically formal and decorative, framing the central field in a way that provides a sense of structure and completion to the overall composition.

Collecting a rug from this tradition is an investment in human skill and regional heritage. These pieces are valued not only for their aesthetic beauty but for the cultural narrative they represent, offering owners a piece of history that is both functional and deeply meaningful.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted, a process that requires immense skill and patience. With a density of 160,000 knots per m2, the creation of this piece involves over 1 million individual hand-tied knots, a labour-intensive effort that ensures a dense, resilient pile and exceptional pattern precision.

Given the complexity of the design and the sheer volume of knots, this rug represents months of focused work by highly trained artisans. The weight of 19.9 kg for a rug of this size is a testament to the generous amount of high-quality material used, resulting in a substantial, high-performing piece that stands the test of time.

The foundation of the rug is crafted with a sturdy cotton base, which provides the necessary structural stability to support such a dense wool pile. This combination of materials and manual precision is what gives the rug its lasting durability and luxurious feel, demonstrating the value of authentic, time-honoured craft.
