Dark red / Black130 x 210 cm

The Sarough rug originates from the village of the same name in the central region of the Middle East. Historically, this area became a hub for high-quality weaving, gaining international acclaim in the late 19th and early 20th centuries for producing rugs that were both robust and artistically refined.

Sarough rugs are defined by their use of high-quality wool and a dense, sturdy knotting technique. This construction ensures that the rugs are exceptionally long-wearing, capable of withstanding the rigours of a busy household while maintaining their lustrous appearance. The combination of dense pile and durable foundation is a hallmark of the region's craft.

Visually, these rugs are often recognised by their elegant floral designs, which frequently feature a central medallion surrounded by scrolling vines and blossoms. While the classic red field is a traditional favourite, the artistry lies in the way the weavers balance these complex, organic patterns with a symmetrical and harmonious layout.

Owning a Sarough rug is an investment in a living tradition. These pieces are highly valued by collectors for their consistency in quality and their ability to bridge the gap between traditional artistry and functional home decor. Each rug represents a chapter in a long-standing cultural history of textile excellence.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and a high level of technical proficiency. With a density of 360,000 knots per m2, the artisan has invested hundreds of hours into ensuring every detail of the floral motif is rendered with crisp, lasting precision.

The high knot density is the primary reason for the rug's exceptional durability and defined pattern work. By packing the wool tightly against the cotton foundation, the weaver creates a dense pile that resists flattening and maintains its structural integrity, ensuring the rug remains a beautiful feature for generations.

Weighing 8.2 kg, this rug demonstrates the generous use of quality materials and the laborious effort involved in its creation. This density is a testament to the artisan's commitment to quality, as it requires significantly more time and material than mass-produced alternatives.
