Senneh rugs originate from the city of Sanandaj in the western part of the Middle East, a region with a deep-rooted history of textile artistry. Traditionally, these rugs are celebrated for their sophisticated weaving and the way they blend functional floor coverings with the intricate aesthetics of fine art.

The term Senneh refers to a specific weaving style characterised by the use of the asymmetrical knot, which allows for a high degree of detail and fluidity in the patterns. This technical approach creates a refined pile that is both soft to the touch and remarkably durable, ensuring the rug remains a staple in your home for many years.

The visual language of a Senneh rug is often defined by its iconic medallion or all-over floral motifs, frequently set against a field that showcases deep, saturated colours. The borders are typically ornate, framing the central design with a balance that draws the eye inward, showcasing the skill involved in traditional weaving layouts.

These rugs are highly valued by collectors for their cultural significance and the dedication required to produce them. Owning a Senneh rug is an investment in a living tradition, connecting your modern home to a long lineage of artisans who have perfected their craft over generations.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a labour-intensive process that demands immense skill and patience from the artisan. By tying each individual knot by hand, the maker ensures that every detail of the design is rendered with precision and that the finished pile is exceptionally robust.

The quality of this piece is evident in its weight of 3.1 kg, which reflects a dense and substantial construction that will stand the test of time. This significant material investment means the rug is both durable and satisfyingly heavy, laying flat and holding its shape beautifully in your home.

Creating a rug of this size and density requires weeks of dedicated work, with every pass of the shuttle and every knot placed with intention. This slow, human-led process is what gives the rug its superior durability and the sharp, clear pattern definition that defines the Senneh style.
