Originating from the Middle Eastern tradition of rug making, this piece carries a sense of heritage and skill. Owning such a rug means bringing a genuine piece of history into your home, where its presence adds a layer of depth and personality that mass-produced items simply cannot provide.

Turkaman rugs originate from the nomadic tribes of the Central Asian steppes, a region with a deep and storied history of textile production. Over centuries, these traditions migrated and evolved, eventually becoming a staple of Middle Eastern rug culture. Today, they are celebrated for their distinctive aesthetic and the enduring skill of the weavers who produce them.

The technical quality of a Turkaman rug is often defined by its pile construction. These rugs are known for their dense, durable wool, which is carefully selected for its lustre and ability to hold vibrant dyes. The tightness of the knotting is a crucial factor in both the longevity of the rug and the sharpness of its iconic geometric motifs.

The visual language of the Turkaman tradition is unmistakable. It is primarily defined by the 'gul'—a repeating octagonal or diamond-shaped medallion that represents tribal identity and heritage. These motifs are typically arranged in precise, rhythmic rows across the field, often enclosed by elaborate, symbolic borders that frame the composition with formality and grace.

Beyond their striking appearance, these rugs are highly prized by collectors for their cultural significance and the dedication required to create them. Owning a Turkaman rug is an investment in a legacy of human artistry. It represents a commitment to preserving traditional techniques while enjoying the warmth and character that only a hand-crafted piece can bring to a modern home.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted, a process that requires immense focus and expertise from the artisan. With 640,000 knots per square metre, the creation of this piece represents hundreds of hours of dedicated manual labour, ensuring a level of detail and structural integrity that is impossible for machines to emulate.

The weight of 8.9 kg for this 196 x 130 cm rug is a direct result of the high-density construction and the quality of the materials used. This significant weight is a hallmark of a well-made rug, providing the necessary heft to ensure it lies flat and maintains its shape over time.

By investing in a hand-knotted rug, you are supporting a tradition of craft that values precision and durability above all else. The immense knot count not only results in an incredibly sharp, intricate design but also creates a dense pile that will resist wear and retain its beauty for generations.
