TurkamanHand KnottedRug

Black / Dark red62 x 100 cm

The Turkaman rug tradition finds its roots in the nomadic tribes of Central Asia, where weaving was not just a craft but a vital expression of tribal identity and cultural history. Over centuries, these designs have migrated and evolved through the Middle East, with weavers continuously refining the techniques and patterns that define the style today.

At the heart of the Turkaman aesthetic is the use of rich, deep colours, most notably shades of red, paired with complex geometric symbols. These rugs are highly prized by collectors for their consistency in quality and their ability to bridge the gap between ancient textile traditions and modern home interiors.

The signature design element of these rugs is the recurring 'gul' motif, a stylised, octagonal emblem that represents the tribal lineage of the weaver. These medallions are typically arranged in clean, rhythmic rows, creating a sense of balance and harmony that is instantly recognisable to those who appreciate fine hand-knotted textiles.

Owning a Turkaman rug is an opportunity to connect with a long-standing lineage of artistry. These pieces are more than just floor coverings; they are historical records woven in wool, representing a standard of skill that has been passed down through generations of dedicated families.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans, a process that requires immense patience and precision. Each knot is tied individually by hand, resulting in a robust and long-lasting structure that reflects a deep respect for traditional craft methods.

With a density of 160,000 knots per m2, this rug displays a remarkable level of pattern clarity and pile density. This high knot count is a testament to the time and effort invested in its creation, ensuring a durable finish that will withstand the test of time while keeping its shape and texture.

The substantial weight of 2.2 kg for this compact size is a clear indicator of the high-quality materials and dense knotting used throughout. This weight gives the rug a solid, premium feel that stays firmly in place, reflecting the dedication of the craftspeople who brought it to life.
