Long runner rugs, 250 to 350 cm, free delivery

Long runner rugs measure 250 to 350 cm end to end, the length that covers a full hallway instead of stopping two thirds of the way down. Widths run from 75 to 100 cm, and most homes land on either 80 x 250 cm or 80 x 300 cm, which is the size our rug size guide suggests for a long hallway. If you want the same length in a standard rectangular shape, see our large rug; for every runner we stock, from doormat length upwards, explore all runner rugs.

Choosing a long runner for a hallway or kitchen

A long runner rug covers the length of a space that a standard runner can’t, which is why it suits hallways, galleries and narrow kitchens so well. At 230 cm and over, it lays a continuous walkway down the middle of the floor, with a bit of bare floor showing at the sides. It also protects the busiest strip of the room from daily wear, softens footsteps, and adds warmth underfoot.

Long runners are popular for the same practical reasons: they fit awkward, narrow spaces, they hide marks along high-traffic routes, and they bring colour and pattern to a part of the home that is often overlooked. Beyond hallways, they work well beside a bed, along a kitchen counter, or on a staircase landing. Low-pile and flatweave runners are the easiest to hoover, while wool options are hard-wearing and naturally stain-resistant.

Frequently asked questions

A long runner rug typically measures over 250 cm in length, with some designs extending up to 400 cm. These are ideal for large hallways, open-plan spaces or connecting long corridors between rooms. For bigger spaces, our range of extra long runner rugs might be a better fit.

Leave roughly 15 to 20 cm of bare floor at each end and 10 to 15 cm at each side, so the runner reads as deliberate rather than as fitted carpet. That makes long runner rugs a comfortable fit for a hallway of about 2.8 to 3 m, and 300 cm for one of around 3.3 to 3.5 m. Measure the clear run rather than the whole hall, and stop short of any door that swings inwards.

Usually, yes. Long runners are 75 to 100 cm wide and a galley kitchen needs roughly 90 to 120 cm of clear walkway, so an 80 cm runner still leaves room to open the oven door and the lower cupboards. Choose a low pile or flatweave so internal doors pass over it.

Yes, using more than one long runner in extended hallways or across multiple adjoining spaces can create visual flow. For a cohesive look, opt for matching or complementary designs and maintain even spacing between rugs.

Long runner rugs benefit from an anti-slip more than short runners do. Over 250 cm and up there is far more surface free to shift, and a runner that creeps across a hard floor becomes a trip hazard in a corridor people walk quickly down. An anti-slip underlay also keeps the ends from curling and takes some of the wear off the rug itself.
